AMA Motocross Round 6 RedBud MX, Michigan Preview

It's round 6 of the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross National Championships. This week - Buchanan, Michigan at Red Bud MX.

In the ' Motocross ' class, the big three are Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey, and Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto. Those three riders are dominating the series (as far as winnning motos and races) compared to anyone else in the class.

In the 250 MX Lites class, Dean Wilson is the series points leader as the series will conclude it's halfway point by Saturday night. Second in points is teammate Tyla Rattray. And their teammate Blake Baggett has shown incredible speed at many races. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team has dominated this class.

And, back in action this weekend, the Women's class - WMX. At the top you have Ashley Fiolek and Jessica Patterson, who seem to turn almost every moto into their own personal battle.

Could Saturday's racing be affected by mud and rain? Don't know yet, but the day before it's been raining quite hard here, with lots of thunder and lightning. Tomorrow's weather forecast - 90 degrees, with afternoon thunderstorms. We'll see about that ... Supercross.com will have race coverage of both the men's and women's classes

Women's AMA Motocross National Championship numbers for 2011 season

Beginning last season, MX Sports Pro Racing implemented a new numbering system for the Women's AMA National Motocross championship. In years past, riders selected their numbers based on availability and order of selection was determined by where a rider finished in the standings the previous season. While the champion was designated to wear the number one plate, all other competitors were permitted to select any number that was available.

The 2010 campaign marked the debut of a new numbering system that determines a rider's number by where she finished the previous season. As a result, one's finishing position in the championship would serve as her number for the following season.

While Women's MX Champion Jessica Patterson will enter 2011 with the #1 plate on her bike, jersey and helmet, below is a list of the remaining numbers for next season's MotorcycleUSA Women's Motocross Championship in accordance to each woman's position in the final standings for 2010:

James Stewart Jr Brian Stonebridge David Strijbos Kevin Strijbos Bengt Aberg Greg Albertyn Jeff Alessi Mike Alessi

RJ Says: State of Supercross

As the West Region ends for a while, and East region gets ready to start up ... In 250 West Supercross 2010, Jake Weimer and Trey Canard are showing a lot of confidence right now. I'm very impressed with both of these racers right now. This past race at Anaheim was a good example for both of them.

Series points leader Jake Weimer has a great heat race with a win, even after that heat was red-flagged. Jake had some trouble in the Main Event, but showed his smarts by charging hard the full 15 laps, coming up to eighth at the finish ... that could literally save his season and potentially the championship title.

Trey had some problems in his heat, but came back very strong in the final - he won the 250 Main in Anaheim. That shows a lot of maturity from him as a rider.
